My favorite part of welcoming a new season and new year is the nesting that tends to come with it’s gentle hug of change. I am known to lose myself in a good clean and purge throughout our home. It seems to come on when change, of any kind, is near–like welcoming a baby or snow or spring blooms for example. Regardless of what the change is, I find this urge to nest to be just as enjoyable as all the rest.
The thing about nesting is there is always a change on the other side–much like the very reason for it’s onset. It welcomes newness. A refresh. Something different. Even if it is subtle. Walking into a room and seeing something else in a new place or maybe something replaced, welcomes change and creativity and even bit of fun. At least for me.
I switched a few things around in Klo’s room a few weeks ago. I had just finished rocking her down for a nap and in the process of laying her down in her bed I knocked the floral wreath down that hung above her bed. Instead of putting it back up in it’s place–afraid of disturbing her–I hung it up on a different wall in her room. Before I knew it, I was switching out art and dried floral vases. A subtle change. But one that welcomed a new exciting feeling walking into her room to greet her after she woke up from her nap.
