Turkey Meatball Bowl
Prep Time : 45 minutes
Cook Time : 1 hour + 15 minutes
Ingredients
Turkey Balls
1 pound of extra lean ground turkey ( 97-99% lean )
1 tbsp finely chopped spinach
1 tbsp finely chopped basil
1 tbsp finely chopped green onion
1 tbsp chopped red onion
1-2 tbsp fets (chop into fine particles if needed)
1-2 tbsp grated parmesan
* Use the amount of feta and parmesan to your liking. This provides dryness to the meat and acts like a binder to keep the meatballs together.
1 tbsp olive oil
1-2 tbsp bread crumbs (we use our homemade croutons for this. simply crush them down to fine pieces)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp rosemary salt
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
dash of Himalayan salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp sea salt
Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl and mix. Let chill in refrigerator for about an hour before preparing balls and cooking. This helps to keep the meat and ingredients together.
Tomato Sauce :
1 can crushed tomatoes (Cento San Marzano in the yellow can is preferred)
2 tbsp grated parmesan
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp rosemary salt
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp himalayan salt + pepper
pinch of crushed red pepper
pinch of fresh parsley
Instructions
To prepare meatballs simply follow the ingredient list about and mix meat and ingredients into a bowl. Place meat in the refrigerator for one hour before preparing meat into balls and cooking them. To cook, simply add a little olive oil to your pan. Place meatballs into pan over medium heat. Remove once thoroughly cooked.
While the meat is setting, marinating in it’s fine ingredients, you can start your sauce. Simply take medium to large pot and add the above ingredients for tomato sauce. You will want to start with 1/4 cup red finely chopped red onion and pinch of salt (Himalayan salt) and pepper. Then you can start adding the rest of the ingredients. Let simmer and cook for over medium to low heat for one hour.
Once the meat and the sauce are ready, simply put sauce in an oven safe bowl. Add meatballs on top. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and place in oven on broil setting. Since the tomato sauce and meat are already warm, placing in the oven on broil is simply to melt the cheese. Remove from oven and sprinkle with grated and shredded parmesan, homemade croutons, and finely chopped basil.
