My girls come running whenever they hear me roll out the long sheets of plain white paper and digging in the craft drawer. One by one I pull out supplies to gather my little flock around the table for crafts and mocktails. This may be one of my favorite activities to do with them because it gives us time to just be. To slow down. To sit. To be in the company of one another without the worry and pressure of sharing or fighting for attention or one making waves in someone else’s project. It’s a time to get messy and for us to be us while sinking into our own imagination over sweet conversations and healthy drinks that bring a touch of magic to the table.
It’s a different kind of set the table. One that evokes creativity and imagination but with less preparation and stress. We’re happy to partner with Mott’s Sensibles to share our experience with their new 100% juice that is now available at local Walmart stores. What I love about this juice is the girls think they’re drinking something fancy but the hidden gem is that it has way less sugar, 30% less than their regular apple juice products. Made with fruit juice, coconut water, a splash of vegetable juice, Mott’s Sensibles is becoming a fast favorite in our home. It’s sweet but not too sweet making it a wonderful option to offer during snack time and bring to the table for moments like this. It keeps the sugar buzz at bay allowing us to have more quality time to spend together without the worry.
What I love most about our craft time and mocktails is that we all move along at our own pace. No one has to keep up. No one has to slow down. We are there to have fun and be silly and create whatever our wandering minds want to create. And when we are all finished we have this beautiful masterpiece that tells the story of our time together and the season we are in. On this day our conversation sounded of spring and our garden and all the pretty flowers that mama plants in the yard. We had some left over wooden eggs from Kaia’s birthday party so we painted them. Kendi has been working on her shapes so there are hearts and circles and squares all painted about. And my favorite, the abstract splat paint that they did together.
The days are long but these sweet innocent moments are sure something to treasure.
